BATTLEFORD ARENA WALL OF FAME
To honour and recognize the names and deeds of
those individuals and teams whose athletic abilities have brought fame to
themselves and the Battlefords community, and to those individuals whose
interest in and work for sport has resulted in a climate that benefits athletes
and athletics in the sports of ice hockey and figure skating.
Athlete:
i.
The nominee must have participated in
the sport of ice hockey or figure skating and attained a level of excellence or
landmark result that brought special honour and recognition to the Town of
Battleford and;
ii.
The nominee’s achievements should be
considered exceptional and sustained within the context of their sport and in
the community, surpassing what is typically achieved and;
iii.
Any
athlete nominated to the Battleford Arena Wall of Fame must have retired from
active field participation in the sport(s) for a period of not less than three
years, with the exception of an automatic selection nominee and the nominations
for builder of sport.
Team:
i.
Eligible
teams must have represented the sport of ice hockey or figure skating with
distinction and attained excellence at a level higher than what is typically
achieved, e.g. national or international level of competition, or
achieved another significant accomplishment that brought special honour and
recognition to the Town of Battleford.
ii.
A "team” for wall purposes is defined
as any group of two or more athletes engaged in the same sport who work
together as a unit in that sport. The team may be made up of members of the
same sex, or the team may be intermixed, e.g. figure skating doubles, or ice
hockey team.
iii.
Teams nominated will include all
athletes, coaches, trainers, managers, and other relevant support personnel.
Builder
of Sport:
i.
Nominees are
defined as officials, individual sponsors, executives, trainers, coaches, administrators, volunteers, and media, etc., whose work for sport over an
extended period of time has been significant.
ii.
The nominee must have made a significant
contribution to Battlefords Community sport(s) in ice hockey or figure skating,
whether it be in the organization of leagues and facilities, achieving a high
degree of success in coaching teams and/or individuals, or providing services
of a consistently high level over an extended period of time.
iii.
The nominee must have served The Battlefords
Community for a significant amount of time, not necessarily consecutively.
iv. No retirement waiting period is required before nomination.
